The First day in Michigan, we went to church. It was considered a Ward, but it was tiny. I thought it looked more like a branch. But I loved being in a small ward like that. You could tell the members were close.
Monday we headed about 4-5 hours to Northern Michigan to the magnificent Mackinac Island! that Island is beautiful. We took a boat over. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the island. Tourist, and residents of the Island get around on bike, or horse and buggy. It takes you back in time. the hotels, shops, and houses are all from the 1800's. There is History on that Island.
We road our bikes around the entire perimeter of the Island, which is about 9 miles. It has stunning scenic views! The water is crystal clear. If you have seen the movie Somewhere in time, that movie was filmed there.
We spent the day on the Island, and then spent the night at my cousins house in Mackinaw City.
We went to check out the light house in Mackinaw. It was a fun trip up North.
Wednesday we went to Amish Country. I love going out to see the Amish. It's also like going
back in time. They have such a different culture. It's very Interesting. My family have become friends with some of the Amish. So we got to do, what most don't get to do. They gave us a buggy ride, and we learned a lot about the culture/religion. We got to take pictures (if we didn't get any of their faces) My kids loved to see the Amish and play with their kids. They call them "pioneers" Which is what they do remind me of. I love their baked goods, and quilts.
We spent time with some of my mom cousins, and my great Aunt and Uncle, and played on the beach. The lakes are amazing! They are incredibly HUGE! They look like Oceans, But better because they don't have weird ocean creatures or salt. The beaches nice, the water is nice, and you constantly see ships out on the lake.
It was so fun! we didn't want to go back home.
